WHY VOLUNTEER?

Trained citizen volunteers are the life blood of the Get The Dirt Out project.  You can help us take action against one of the biggest problems in our watershed:  polluted runoff from construction sites. We will identify construction sites for you to monitor, or you can suggest sites that we may not be aware of.

After attending a brief Volunteer Training Workshop with fellow concerned citizens that will teach you how to recognize the “Best Management Practices” for controlling polluted runoff, we will distribute water proof monitoring and reporting forms at the training session that will help you document the site accurately. All you need to provide are a digitial camera, perhaps boots and an umbrella, and you can become a valuable steward of our watershed.

Once you have collected the data, you will then be able to submit your reports and photos online via our GTDO Report Online Filing System. If you don't have a computer or the Internet, then simply bring them directly to our offices in Berlin, Maryland.

Muddy RunoffNeed more convicing? This photo is just one example of what muddy runoff looks like. With proper volunteer training and the developer's use of the proper management practices, together we can stop this polluted water from reaching our Coastal Bays watershed.

Check out the Get The Dirt Out Volunteer Job Descriptions to see the details and types of volunteers that we are looking for.
